Ron DeSantis has warned that Hurricane Ian is 'knocking on the door' of a Category 5 storm and wants Floridians to prepare for ‘major impact’ ahead of making landfall with winds hitting 155pmh. Hurricane Ian is battering Florida’s west coast as multiple tornados are sweeping waves of destruction through the Sunshine State. The Category 4 storm is nearing Category 5 hours before it is set to make landfall in Florida, after leaving two dead in Cuba and decimating swathes of the island. Tampa is bracing for 6ft storm surge before landfall this afternoon, with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis telling those who have remained in the red evacuation zones that it is time to 'hunker down' and 'prepare for the storm'. DeSantis warned those in Collier, Charlotte and Sarasota county that it was 'too late' to leave and urged anyone still out on the roads to get to a 'safe place as soon as possible.' He added that Ian was 'knocking on the door' of a Category 5, and confirmed that 100,000 homes have already been reported across the state. The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for four counties, including Sarasota and Manatee, which will be in effect until 5pm on Wednesday. Officials have warned that the storm surge could reach 12ft, with deadly winds and flooding along the state's heavily populated Gulf Coast from Bonita Beach to the Tampa Bay region. Damages are expected to reach $45billion as the storm continues to grow in strength, as more than two million Floridians have been urged to evacuate.

CIA 'warned about underwater drone attack on Nord Stream pipes WEEKS ago': Kremlin dismisses 'stupid' claims it was behind sabotage on key gas supply to Europe

Western leaders and experts say the two key gas links that serve Europe were 'sabotaged' by Russia to cause further energy chaos on the continent and cause an 'environmental catastrophe', which the Kremlin has denied. Video shared by the Swedish Coast Guard shows a frothing jet of water spewing above the waves northeast of the Danish island of Bornholm after one of the ruptures, causing a kilometre-wide surface disturbance. The EU strongly believes the pipes were deliberately attacked and warned of a 'robust and united response' to whoever was responsible. It was revealed last night that the CIA warned weeks ago the pipes could be attacked after agents sent a 'strategic warning' to European allies including Germany, sources told Der Spiegel last night.

'The birthplace of liberty is a cesspool': Crime wave sweeps 'lawless' Philadelphia with more than 750 people shot dead since Memorial Day and rampant smash-and-grabs wrecking businesses

Since Memorial Day, shootings and assaults in the supposed City of Brotherly Love has been rife, with gun violence being particularly relentless. Shootings have occurred every day of the week and at any given hour of the day since May 31 - with nearly every corner of the city impacted. The crime wave, meanwhile, has spared no one - with one incident this past week seeing a Temple University grad murdered by a masked gunman while walking the street, and another claiming the life of a 14-year-old football player when he was heading home from a school scrimmage. Mass looting and other brazen assaults have also been commonplace, such as one over the weekend that saw more than 100 children as young as 10 storm and ransack a Wawa convenience store. In another, filmed incident, a commuter was held at gunpoint by a masked marauder while waiting for the subway - further outraging fed-up Philadelphians. The steady stream of violent episodes spurred city officials - including progressive Mayor Jim Kenney - to stage a meeting last month behind closed doors to discuss ways to reduce the violence. However, despite this, gun violence has been on the rise, causing many to speak out against the city's soft-on-crime policies and politicians, calling for change in a city that has been touted as the birthplace of American democracy.

Ernest Hemingway's granddaughter says the family is terrified that his iconic Key West home and museum will be destroyed by Hurricane Ian - as staff batten down the hatches and move his beloved brood of six-toed cats into a bunker

Mariel Hemingway told DailyMail.com that the family would be devastated if his Florida Keys home was damaged by Hurricane Ian, adding: 'the pain and sorrow would be palpable'. On Tuesday, as Key West battened down the hatches - schools and offices were closed, flights canceled and residents warned of a storm surge up to three feet above normal high tides - the actress said she feared for the 180-year-old property, which was home to Hemingway from 1931 to 1939. The house was originally given to Hemingway and his second wife, Pauline, as a wedding gift from her uncle. It is home to a colony of six-toed cats, descended from Hemingway's pet Snow White: on Tuesday night, the cats were sheltering safely in a bunker. She said that, when the house in the Keys was in the path of Hurricane Irma in September 2017, it took hours for the news to filter through. 'When the Florida one was hit by a hurricane previously, the only news that came out of it was that his six-toed cat survived,' she said.

Meghan and Harry: Bodyguard pictured with Sussexes is ex-Met officer convicted of choking

EXCLUSIVE: Pere Daobry, 51, was pictured (main) driving the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in a Range Rover as they left Frogmore cottage on their way to London's Euston station. Despite his important role protecting the high-profile couple Daobry was convicted at Colchester Magistrates Court in September 2016 of attacking his wife, Sarah Jay (with him on right and, inset, her injuries), a former Essex Police sergeant, after she declared that she no longer loved him. The 6ft 7in bodybuilder only escaped imprisonment because he called 999 and confessed to his crime - while his wife later committed suicide after describing him as a 'lunatic'. The revelation will raise eyebrows as Meghan has long championed women's rights - especially gender-based violence.

The Duchess of Sussex, 41, had paused the release of her Spotify podcast for the duration of the mourning period for the Queen.

'Her death is being exploited': Lifetime is SLAMMED over new movie about Gabby Petito's murder, as viewers brand network 'disgusting' for airing film just one year after she was killed

The upcoming re-telling of the real-life tragedy that saw the 22-year-old get murdered by her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, is being veraciously slammed online. Petito was strangled by her partner while they were on a road trip together in August 2021. Laundrie was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Millions were invested in figuring out what happened to the travel influencer after she disappeared - and her murder sent shockwaves through the country. Now, Lifetime is gearing up to release a flick portraying the devastating events that led up to Petito's death - and many people are not looking forward to it. Social media users accused Lifetime of 'exploiting her death,' and called the network 'sick,' 'disgusting,' and 'disrespectful' for making a movie about it. Social media users were quick to point out that the beauty look has actually be popular with black, brown and Latina women since the 90s. Furious beauty lovers proceeded to call out the fashion star for appropriating the makeup technique by failing to credit her source of inspiration.

A breathy, believable Marilyn Monroe... and some brutal truths laid bare: BRIAN VINER reviews Blonde, featuring Ana de Armas as the Hollywood icon

BRIAN VINER: Maybe only Diana, Princess of Wales, holds a candle in the wind to Marilyn Monroe as a 20th century icon still subject to rumour, gossip and intrigue. They were both just 36 when they died. Judging by the fuss surrounding the mighty Netflix picture Blonde, which lasts for the best part of three hours, that enduring fascination might actually be intensifying. The movie is an adaptation of the Joyce Carol Oates novel, a fictionalised account of Monroe's life, which ran to more than 700 pages. I read it once on holiday and needed another holiday when I finished it. It was pretty hard going. So, in many ways, is the film. Writer-director Andrew Dominik also made The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford (2007), which was admired by some and left others scratching their heads. He specialises in a brand of whimsy that is given full throttle in Blonde, yet I liked it much more than I expected.
